Book 3 continues the episodic approach of the series, but I’m laying the groundwork for larger mysteries to be investigated over the course of the series now that I’m committing to more books. This was going to be a quick 3-book series, where this book would be the escalation chapter with lots of action to pay off all the behind-the-scenes drama in previous ones. Instead, it’s turned out to be a fun series to write with a very different feel to my other stuff and the genre at large.
I hope you continue to enjoy it, although I expect to have some books that are less enjoyable than others, simply because that’s how episodic stuff works (everyone debates over their favorite episodes, after all).
Back when I delayed Heretic Spellblade 6 to work on this book, I said it would be a quick and easy book to write. Then real life happened. Even so, I’m going to eat those words because I had to rewrite the middle of this book a few times. I still feel Neural Wraith is easier to write, but writing a good book still requires effort and especially if I want to write a mystery.
I’m not sure when audio will be done for this book, although I’ll send it off to Podium right away. I’ll update you when I can. Remember that Spellblade 5’s audio is out on the 11th, so preorder that.
I’ll take April off to relax, and then I’m going to modify the way I write books entirely. This means there will likely be a longer delay before my next book, but a more reliable schedule afterward. I’ll talk about this here when I’m certain things are going as planned, but my less concrete musings will be on Patreon.
