Rewriting and more rewriting
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but I don’t think that’s how it works on Amazon.
Regardless, I’m still on hiatus as I continue working on my next batch of novels as previously announced. Now that I’ve had plenty of time to think about what I’m writing without thinking about publishing pressures, I’ve also spent more time thinking about the actual concepts of my stories.
I’ve also been doing a lot of writing for fun under my online penname to keep my muse going. It’s helped me realize the sorts of things I should be including in my books, and also that planning less can produce better content. ‘Progression’ is also something I really enjoy, and I think I underplayed that in Empire Reforged in favor of the action scenes, to the series’ detriment.
The big news is that I’m going to park the original version of Heretic Spellblade indefinitely. It felt more like I was trying to ‘paint by numbers’ and hit a bunch of tropes and popular things in other harem fantasy books, even if I don’t actually like those books or authors. I started writing years ago because I enjoyed it, and I chose to publish because I wanted to make money doing something I liked, rather than churning out ‘by the numbers’ books.
Fortunately, I always have new series ideas. I won’t prematurely announce anything until it’s ready, but I will say that I plan to have four books ready before I publish anything again. That way I can release monthly for a good while and keep people satisfied.
For fans of Empire Reforged, that unfortunately means more waiting. But I promise it will come, and I’ll have other series of a similar nature that you should enjoy.
