December Update

We’re approaching the end of 2021, and also the end of a big year for me.

Before I sum up the year, let’s jump into the news:

  • If you’ve somehow missed them, Heretic Spellblade 3 is out on audio and Demon’s Throne 2 on ebook. Check them out on Audible and Amazon, respectively. I also updated the Demon’s Throne covers to look better, although the paperbacks are unchanged for now.

  • Heretic Spellblade 4 will release in the first week of January. No Christmas release.

  • I expect to have news to share on Demon’s Throne audio next year.

  • My schedule for the first half of next year looks pretty packed: Demon’s Throne 3, Heretic Spellblade 4 and 5, Empire Reforged 3, plus I’m working on a new series on Patreon.

Pushing back Spellblade 4 was a difficult decision, as I really wanted to release it in December. The book will be done before Christmas, but that doesn’t mean it will be ready. This is easily the biggest book of the series, and the biggest book I’ve written. Ideally, it’s also my best book. It’s the fulcrum of the series and a lot happens in it.

The extra fortnight will allow beta readers to give me proper thoughts, and I’ll be able to adjust scenes and character arcs that aren’t quite working. For anyone who can’t wait, the first 70% of the book will be on Patreon, although the chapters may change slightly in the final release.

With the news over, let’s look back at 2021.

While there have been some rocky patches, I can’t complain. I’m now a full-time author, my first audiobooks came out, and I am writing stories that I love to write. The best part is that a lot of you enjoy reading them and I get to read the feedback and reactions to something I’ve created.

I haven’t written as many books as I planned to. Every time I’ve released a book, I’ve tried to speed up my schedule and failed. While I feel that I’ve kept my quality up, this is a genre where everyone expects rapid releases - a book a month. Whenever I release a book, my fear is that a lot of you won’t come back to read it because it’s been months since the last one.

So I wanted to thank all of you for coming back and reading my books as I release them. I’m looking forward to more years of writing, whatever they may look like.
